The Warburg Institute was founded in 1921 by Abbie Warburg as a research institute at the University of London, part of the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of London.
The Warburg Institute focuses on cultural history, art history, and the history of ideas, especially the Renaissance. It aims to promote and develop the study of the interaction between cultures through the study of written and visual history. The school specializes in the influence of ancient Mediterranean traditions on medieval and modern European culture.
The full-time faculty of the Warburg Institute maintains and develops the school's archives, albums, and libraries for teaching, research, and published materials. The school also holds various lectures, symposia and seminars, and publishes various periodicals and books. There are ample opportunities for students to participate in various research activities.
The Warburg Institute offers Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs. Students can choose from full-time or part-time programs, and also recruit international students.
