The Institute of History is a research arm of the Institute for Advanced Study, University of London. Founded in 1921, the Institute of History is dedicated to training the next generation of historians and to conducting and promoting innovative historical research.

The Institute helps promote public understanding of history and its social, cultural and economic importance, advocates for the long-term future of the discipline and supports its growth and development. It offers a wide range of on-site and remote services to promote excellence in British history research, teaching and scholarship through a library, events programme, scholarships, training and publications.

The School of Advanced Study (School of Advanced Study, University of London), or SAS, is located in the headquarters of the University of London. It was jointly established in 1994 by 10 world-renowned humanities research institutions. Together with 18 other colleges of the University of London, it forms the University of London. The Institute for Advanced Study of the University of London is a leading teaching and research institution in the humanities in Europe and even in the world. Its research level in the humanities is recognized as a world leader.

The Institute for Advanced Research (HEFCE) is the only humanities research institution in the UK directly funded by the UK government and enjoys special grant treatment from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). The Institute for Advanced Study aims to create an international research environment and provide active research support services for scholars engaged in the humanities. The Senate House Library (University of London) is one of the largest libraries in the United Kingdom. The library has a collection of more than 3 million books, including 120,000 books published before 1851, 5,295 academic journals, 1,000 original manuscripts, and 170,000 papers. The bibliographies mainly cover the fields of humanities, arts and social sciences, and are open to all members of the University of London.
