The Institute for Ecology and the Environment (INEE) is part of the French National Centre for Scientific Research.
National Centre for Scientific Research (French: Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), founded on 19 October 1939 under the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, is the largest government research institute in France and the largest basic scientific research institute in Europe. It is also one of the world's leading scientific research institutions.
The research interests of the Institute for Ecology and the Environment (INEE) of the French National Centre for Scientific Research include all research in the field of ecology and the environment, including the exploration of biodiversity and the relationship between humans and the environment.
Research units in research centers are generally small in size, and they mainly fall into three types: directly affiliated research units (UPR), collaborative research units (UPA), and mixed research units (UMR). The first type of unit is the research institution affiliated to the research center itself, whose personnel and funds come from the research center itself. The latter two types of research units are jointly established by CNRS, universities and other French departments, and the input in personnel and funds shall be negotiated by the participants at the time of establishment.
Among the nearly 1300 research institutes in CNRS, about 200 are directly affiliated with CNRS, making up the smallest proportion. There are more than 1,000 collaborative and mixed research units. In recent years, CNRS attaches great importance to the construction and development of mixed research units, which has become a new feature of its institutional construction. At present, the number of mixed research units is over 500, and they are not very different from collaborative research units in nature. Collaborative research units developed earlier (in 1966), which were mainly established by research centers through the signing of contracts with universities; Mixed research units have only been developed in the last decade and involve a wider range of institutions, including enterprises and other public and private institutions. The parties not only have financial and human input, but they also participate in the management of the hybrid research unit.
