The Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, founded in 1958, is an important research and development institution in the field of microelectronics science, technology and integrated circuits in China.
Microelectronics Institute was formerly known as 109 Factory of the former Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1986, the 109 Factory, the Institute of Semiconductors and the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences were merged into the Microelectronics Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In September 2003, it was officially renamed Institute of Microelectronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Institute conducts scientific research in the fields of semiconductor devices and integrated circuit manufacturing, integrated circuit design and application, integrated circuit equipment and so on. With 13 research and development units, the Institute has the whole chain from principle devices, integration process, manufacturing equipment to core chip development, systematic scientific and technological innovation and key core technology research capabilities.
The Institute of Microelectronics is one of the institutions authorized by the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council to award Doctor's and Master's degrees. It is the main organizer of the School of Integrated Circuits of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. It now has three first-level disciplines: Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, and Optical Engineering.
