The Automatic Systems Policy Institute (ASPI) is a campus-wide, interdisciplinary research institute at Syracuse University that advances knowledge and teaching in the field of automatic systems by exploring new areas of design, decision-making, law, governance, and management related to automation engineering and emerging technologies.
ASPI integrates faculty expertise from all of Syracuse's schools and schools through interdisciplinary design. ASPI's focus is on all autonomous systems, from driverless cars to unmanned aerial vehicles to maritime systems. This broad and integrated approach allows it to provide an integrated critical perspective on how automated systems affect the world around them and what kinds of decisions, norms and practices can best shape their ethical and fair use. Collaboration between experts in different disciplines and areas of expertise reinforces the value of ASPI's contributions to policy analysis and recommendations. ASPI faculty and institute partners meet on the third Wednesday of each month to discuss methods and research tools.
