建所以来,在贝时璋、邹承鲁、梁栋材和杨福愉等老一辈科学家的带领下,历经几代科技工作者的辛勤努力,开创并推动了我国细胞生物学、放射生物学、宇宙生物学、酶学、结构生物学、膜生物学、神经生物学、生物控制论和生物物理工程技术等学科的研究和发展,造就了一批优秀科学家,取得了一批高水平研究成果,开发了一批高技术产品,孵化和创办了数家高技术公司,创造了良好的社会效益和经济效益,为国家生命科学事业发展做出了重要贡献。
多年来,生物物理所在蛋白质科学、脑与认知科学、感染与免疫、核酸生物学、蛋白质与多肽药物等学科领域取得了一系列重要研究成果。生物物理所拥有生物大分子、脑与认知科学两个国家重点实验室;感染与免疫、核酸生物学两个中国科学院重点实验室;蛋白质与多肽药物和交叉科学两个所级重点实验室;以及依托蛋白质与多肽药物实验室建设的"北京市生物大分子药物转化工程技术研究中心"和"中国科学院纳米酶工程实验室",依托交叉科学实验室建设的"北京市生物医学分子检测工程技术研究中心"。中科院蛋白质科学研究平台和北京磁共振脑成像中心依托研究所建设,为科研提供完备的公共技术支撑,同时开展实验方法学和实验技术创新研究,并面向社会开放共享。
