The Research Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics supports the creation and dissemination of knowledge in real estate and urban economics, addressing fundamental issues in real estate and urban economics, including housing markets, real estate agents, commercial real estate, agglomeration economy, industrial clustering and gentrification.
The Centre for Real Estate and Urban Economics (CRE) supports research and education in real estate and urban economics at the University of Toronto and is located within the Rotman School of Management, with activities involving academics at the University of Toronto and around the world.
CRE affiliate research covers the areas of urban economics and real estate, considering urban economics, the formation of business clusters, the economics of business improvement districts/regions, investment under uncertainty, real estate development, house price dynamics, housing search, real estate agents and mortgage finance.
CRE sponsors academic conferences involving the microstructure of the real estate market and the latest techniques in the study of real estate and urban economics. Some of these events are held in conjunction with UBC's Suntech Business School. Academic research is at the heart of CRE's public activities, covering topics such as Union Station, waterfront revitalization, and the decision to own or buy a home. CRE studies are a core component of Rotman's real estate education. These courses push students to the forefront of thinking about real estate and urban economic issues, and are typical of research-driven education.
