Combining decades of decision-making research with empirically tested tools, the Rotman Center for Behavioral Economics (BEAR) conducts cutting-edge academic research in the field of behavioral economics and turns research into usable insights to promote behavioral change. The Center looks at social and economic problems from a behavioral science perspective and designs solutions that go beyond traditional methods of applying incentives, penalties, or providing information.
BEAR's core faculty and associated researchers provide a unique behavioral perspective on the relevant challenges facing the organization, and events are held throughout the year at the Rotman School of Management to expose students and professionals to exclusive information on behavioral economics.
BEAR conducts leading academic and field research, helps our partners achieve behavioural change through better touchpoints and interventions, and engages in a variety of educational and outreach activities. Research focuses on non-financial, non-regulatory solutions that preserve freedom of choice but guide people to make better decisions to improve social well-being and corporate profitability. At the heart of BEAR is scientific testing, the application of randomised controlled field and laboratory trials to provide measurable results, and close collaboration with design studios in newly launched commercial design initiatives to create behaviourally informed choice environments.
