Iowa State University's Iowa Soy Research Center (ISRC) was established in June 2014 with approval from the Iowa Board of Directors. ISRC collaborates with the Iowa Soybean Association, industry leaders, farmers and researchers at Iowa State University. The goal of this collaborative effort is to identify and fund research in the field of soybean production and conservation. ISRC is committed to strengthening collaboration, coordination, and integration between Iowa State University, the Iowa Soybean Association, industry, and farmers to align Iowa's soy-related activities with the needs of Iowa soybean farmers and industries that support crop production.
The center involves and helps coordinate research, teaching, and extension activities for faculty and staff working in the fields of soybean biology, breeding, economics, precision agriculture, production, and pest management at Iowa State University and the Iowa Soybean Society.
Financial support from ISRC comes from Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Iowa Soybean Association and industry partners. Funding decisions are made by the Centre's management team under the guidance of the Industry Advisory Committee. In the first five years from 2015 to 2019, the center funded $1 million in research conducted by 11 faculty members at Iowa State University. ISRC funds traditional and multidisciplinary problem-solving research, which sometimes includes machine learning and artificial intelligence tools, to accelerate and enhance work. Specific areas of study are determined by the Centre's Industry Advisory Committee. Iowa soybean growers, industry partners and the Iowa Soybean Association are represented on the center's industry advisory board. The committee advises on research needs, including identifying new areas of research, research gaps, and opportunities to expand and build on existing research.
