The Iowa Center for Nutrition Research was established by the Iowa Board of Directors in response to legislation passed by the Iowa Legislature in 2013. The center pursues a science-based approach in a variety of areas, including assessing the performance of current and emerging nutrition management practices and providing advice on implementing practices and developing new ones.
The purpose of the Iowa Center for Nutrition Research is to pursue a science-based approach to nutrition management research by evaluating the performance of current and emerging nutrition management practices and using an adaptive management framework to provide recommendations for implementing nutrition management practices and developing new ones. Since 2013, the center has invested approximately $15 million in 127 nutrition-related water quality projects. More than 95% of funding goes directly to support research. Significant additional leverage for centrally supported projects comes from additional federal, state, and private funding.
The Iowa Center for Nutrition Research hosts activities to lead nutrition-related water quality research collaborations at three universities and institutions in Iowa, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, IDNR, and IDALS. and supporting 115 research projects in the following categories: nutrient management, field edge, land management and multi-targeting. Create an innovative interactive Iowa water quality study map with INRC projects and other water quality studies across the state. A catalog of researchers was also developed to highlight Iowa scientists working on nutrient reduction research. Increase communication about nutrition research in Iowa by developing an upgraded website with additional online resources and expanding other outreach activities through regular news articles, seminar series, research-related visits and networks, stakeholder meetings, webinars, and other presentations.
