伦敦大学高级研究院高等法律研究所（Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London)，建立于1947年，由著名法学学者，伦敦政治经济学院教授Hughes Parry爵士担任第一届院长。该院由英国高等教育基金委员会（HEFCE）直接管辖，并与1994年之后交由伦敦大学高级研究院负责主要的行政管理工作。

该院与英国内阁办公室有着稳定的长期合作关系, 历届内阁常务秘书长皆为其常任讲师。
作为英国的国家法律研究中心，该院通过辅助英国其他院校教学工作、学术研究、期刊管理、人员培训，论坛筹办，国际合作及其对英国法律研究图书馆的运作为国内外法学研究机构及其学者提供在法律研究方面上的学术支持。

英国高等法律研究院作为挂靠于伦敦大学的国家性研究机构，旨在为研究者提供优良的设施和学术资源，其下属的国家级法律图书馆（IALS Global Law Library）是欧洲及英联邦最大的英文法学图书馆，馆内经常举办各类面向公众的研讨会及学术讲座。除国内研究与教学，英国高等法律研究院还承担了一系列英联邦及欧盟国家的法律工作者的职业培训及学术交流任务。  

The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, was founded in 1947 by eminent legal scholars, Sir Hughes Parry, a professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science, was the first director. The college is under the direct authority of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), and since 1994 has been largely administrated by the Institute for Advanced Studies, University of London.

The Academy has a long and stable relationship with the Cabinet Office and has served as a permanent lecturer to successive Permanent Secretaries to the Cabinet.

As a national Centre for Legal Research in the UK, the School provides academic support for legal research institutions and scholars at home and abroad by assisting other universities in the UK in teaching, academic research, journal management, staff training, forum organization, international cooperation and the operation of the British Legal Research Library.

Ihl is a national institution affiliated to the University of London, which aims to provide excellent facilities and academic resources for researchers. The IHL Global Law Library is the largest English law library in Europe and the Commonwealth. Seminars and academic lectures for the public are often held in the museum. In addition to domestic research and teaching, the Institute also undertakes a range of professional training and academic exchange missions for legal professionals in the Commonwealth and European Union countries.
