The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Ethics (CAIDE) addresses bias, transparency, fairness, privacy, fairness and access in a practical way, bringing together a vast network of researchers from Melbourne Law School, Melbourne School of Engineering, School of Engineering and Information Technology, School of Arts and University of Melbourne Faculty of Science with expertise in artificial intelligence, laws and regulations, cybersecurity, sociology, ethics and philosophy, investigating technologies such as telecommunications customer service chatbots, workplace health and well-being monitoring technologies, and conduct insightful research into the ethics of AI in healthcare and build the legal profession to understand the limitations and possibilities of digital regulation.
With a particular focus on use cases, technologies and applications of digital technologies, the research shares these learnings and case studies across a broad teaching portfolio dedicated to improving the skills of students and professionals in the field of AI ethics. CAIDE provides expert advice and capacity building on topics such as AI use risks, consumer protection and new technology law, regulatory frameworks and safeguards, trusted AI, ethical and philosophical reasoning, ethical and philosophical reasoning, ethical implications of healthcare AI, cybersecurity, enterprise-oriented AI, online dispute resolution, technology and development, etc., to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and training in the booming field of AI and digital ethics.
CAIDE's research focuses on taking high-level concepts of AI ethics and applying them to specific technologies to understand the social, legal, technical, and regulatory implications of their use. Currently, our research focuses on five key themes: trusted AI, fairness and AI, privacy and AI, transparent AI, and responsible AI.
