The mission of the Columbia Center for Law and Philosophy is to provide the foundation for high-level academic collaboration, first with Columbia's extraordinary faculty community in the overlapping areas of moral philosophy, political theory, and jurisology, and second to provide leadership in this overlapping area for scholars in the New York region and the United States.
The Center was established in 1997 at Columbia Law School with funding from the Provost's Strategic Initiative (SI). Since then, the Center has organized and sponsored events that bring together Columbia's many impressive faculty resources in moral, political, and legal philosophy, public lectures, expert seminars, regular symposiums, and academic conferences.
Drawing strength from the vast interdisciplinary resources of prominent research universities and New York City's global arena, the Columbia Center for Law and Philosophy prepares students for legal engagement on challenging issues that transcend borders, jurisdictions, topics, sectors, and industries.
