Cornell University's Food Safety Institute (IFS@CU) takes a comprehensive approach, providing training and conducting applied research to support the food industry in reducing the risk of foodborne illness from farm to fork. IFS@CU Leverage Cornell's existing strengths in food production systems such as fruit, vegetable, dairy, and start-up support to help growers and processors comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). By helping the food industry meet federal regulatory requirements and produce safe products, IFS@CU will support economic growth in all of New York's food sectors, including produce, juice, and dairy, allowing for increased production and new food development.

Cornell University's Food Safety Institute (IFS@CU) supports safe, novel food production that enhances the economic viability and sustainability of the food industry in New York City and beyond. With expertise in fresh produce, dairy, juice, and food processing, IFS@CU helps the food industry meet federal regulatory requirements in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and address food safety challenges from farm to consumer's table. Through research and extension collaborations and embracing new technologies, IFS@CU actively works with farmers, processors, retailers and consumers to produce and ensure food safety.
