The University of Pennsylvania established the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics (Penn LDI) in 1967 with a donation from Leonard and Sophie Davis. Established to fill a fundamental gap in evidence on the financing and management of the health care system, the Institute is Penn's center for research on health care delivery, health policy, and population health.
Researchers work through collaborative, interdisciplinary research and education to achieve effective and efficient healthcare for all. The LDI is the first institute of its kind, bridging the fields of business and medicine and dedicated to the study of health economics.
The Institute works to optimize health insurance and medical care and provide quality physiotherapy care; Improving health and reducing health disparities through more equitable health care systems; Research on the health and economic impacts associated with COVID-19; Improving the health, well-being and care of older persons; Finding effective and sustainable outcomes for opioid use; Focus on social practices, structural strength and population health. Since the inception of Medicare and Medicaid in 1967, the Institute has aimed to create a more equitable, strong, and sustainable health care system.
