The Institute of Advanced Law was established in 1947. It was conceived and funded as a national academic institution, affiliated with the University of London, to serve all universities through its national Library for Legal Studies. Its function is to promote, facilitate and disseminate the results of advanced learning and research in the legal discipline for the benefit of individuals and institutions in the UK and abroad.
The Institute of Advanced Law is engaged in a wide range of activities to promote and support legal research in its broadest sense. At Charles Clore House, Russell Square, Bloomsbury, IALS serves a variety of its national and local researchers, through its digital free Internet resources as well as through its outreach activities across the country, its national Legal Research Library.
