The Russell Berry Institute for Nanotechnology was established in 2005 with the support of the Russell Berry Foundation, the Government of Israel through TELEM and technion to put Technion and the State of Israel at the forefront of global nanotechnology research and development. RBNI continues Technion's historic role in shaping Israel's technology agenda, including visionary investments in aerospace research and development, microelectronics, optoelectronics, and materials science.
Recognizing the vital importance of nanotechnology to the future of humanity, the Institute dedicates its enthusiasm and energy to nanoscience and nanotechnology research and development. The vigorous recruitment of smart new faculty from research labs around the world, extensive investments in infrastructure, new educational programs to train the next generation of scientists and engineers, and multidisciplinary collaborations on campus and with industry and other academic institutions provide tools to achieve the desired impact on Technion, and the well-being of humanity.
More than 150 faculty members and 300 graduate and postdoctoral researchers from 14 different faculties make up the core strength of the Institute, which has pioneered nanoscale science and technology in nanoelectronics, nanooptics, nanomaterials and nanoparticles, nanomechanics and their interface with nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine.
