The Natural Resources Institute of Finland (Luke) is a research institute under the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which was formed in 2015 by the merger of statistical services of the Finnish Agricultural Research Centre, the Finnish ForestRy Institute, the Finnish Institute of Games and Fisheries and the Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Luke's mission is to promote competitive business based on the sustainable use of renewable natural resources and the well-being and dynamism of rural areas.Luke addresses the challenge of sustainable and profitable use of renewable natural resources in four phenomenon-based research programs, with more than 700 research projects conducted each year. Employing about 1250 employees, half researchers and the other half experts, employees and managers who support the research. Luke has 22 locations in Finland, plus two research collaboration locations, and is headquartered in Helsinki.

With the strategic strengths of competent people and motivating organizations, data-driven solutions, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaboration, and modern research platforms, we strive to achieve the strategic objectives of a climate-smart carbon cycle, an adaptive and resilient bioeconomy, profitable and responsible primary production, and a circular bioeconomy.The research and expert activities of the Natural Resources Institute of Finland are based on broad-based capabilities. In multidisciplinary research programmes and projects carried out in cooperation with Finnish and international partners, the capacities of four research units, the Statistical Services Unit, the Research Infrastructure Unit and six service groups were utilized. End users who provide information and solutions play an important role in planning and determining the focus of research activities.
