The roots of the Rise Institute department in Sweden can be traced back to the turn of the last century, helping many research institutes focused on specific industrial sectors at that time to see the light for the first time. In the two decades after 1960, the Institute had branches from various industrial and materials industries, most of which were managed in the form of foundations.
As an independent state-owned research institute, RISE positions itself in its mission to strive for sustainable growth in Sweden by strengthening the competitiveness and renewal capacity of Swedish industry, as well as promoting innovative development of society as a whole. The Institute actively conducts high-quality research and strives to promote cooperation between academia, industry and the public sector to support the innovative development of SMEs. RISE's aim is to provide new solutions for a sustainable future, and the government mandate defines the framework for operations. Goal-oriented, mission- and purpose-based, putting institutional organization and work in a larger context, shared with employees, customers, and partners.
In the face of the current world situation, the Swedish RISE Institute has expanded its strategic scope on the basis of the original research areas of manufacturing, bioeconomy, environment, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, sensors, etc., and has incorporated climate and environment, health and welfare, digitalization, talent management and work life, cyber attacks and natural disasters into the scope of future strategic goals, and is committed to addressing some of the most urgent and exciting challenges of this era.
